Wow, not sure where the time went today! I will try to get an actual gaming post up tomorrow, but I’ve been super busy with blog and #Blaugust stuff today.
As I mentioned over on Sparks in the Horizon, a side effect of #Blaugust is that I’ve become much more aware of the little things I keep meaning to adjust on this blog “someday.” Now that I finally had a day off (and #SGDQ is over) I got started on my list:
1) I added an image link for the podcast to my sidebar. I love doing Beyond the Veil, and I’ve been meaning to feature it in a more prominent place than my “About Me” section.
2) I’ve added “The Secret World” to the top menu. It’s pretty easy to tell that I love TSW – I tend to write about it a lot! With that in mind, I changed how TSW posts are sorted. Instead of being tagged “tsw” they have their own category, which allows me to give them their own page.
3) I’ve started streamlining my tags and categories. I’ve wound up with a few extraneous tags and categories over time. All of my “Charity” posts were also posted in “Gamers Doing Good,” as an example. There’s still work to do, but the shorter I make the list, the easier it should be to find things.
4) I’ve added custom social media buttons. I’ve been meaning to have more than just an RSS button on here! I’ve added buttons for Twitter, Google+, Youtube, Twitch, Steam, and Vine. When I finish linking this blog to tumblr, I’ll add that as well.
5) I’ve added all of the #Blaugust participants to Feedly, and sorted my Twitter with Tweetdeck. Ok, so that’s not directly blog news. But it is definitely going to help me stay organized!
Still to do:
*Format my tumblr page and link the blog to it.
*Design a better header image.
*Update or revamp the “Currently Playing” Section.
*Decide how I want to list related and recommended links. I don’t like my current sidebar widgets for that.
* Finish going through tags.
* Re-format the off-site articles page.
* Spend some time with my Anook profile, and link that on here.
It’s taking more time than I’d hoped, but it feels very good to get some of these things taken care of. I enjoy fiddling with web design, and it’s easy to forget that was one of the things I liked about WordPress in the first place.
Has anyone else found themselves inspired to tinker with their blog due to #Blaugust?

I am constantly at war with my tags and categories, oh my goodness. I really need to do a revamp and tidy them up a bit!

I am also at war with mine, very much so! It makes sense, though. When I write posts, I try to tag them in a way that makes sense, but it’s only looking back on them where I can see common themes more clearly. i have a feeling that going through them might help me get better at using them, though 0 I can hope!

Ahh you got started, that is awesome. Takes time but it is also a bit fun 🙂

😀 Thanks for the encouragement! It’s funny, before I rearranged things I was wondering if I shouldn’t just find a whole new theme. After rearranging, I’m much happier with how things look even though there’s still more to do. It IS fun…when you have a bit of time for it!

Sometimes just a little different in color or something does a lot, or just rearranging some widgets 🙂 Not much that can make a huge difference.

You’re making great progress. Doing tags is the worst since most people don’t use them anyway, but it helps to FEEL more organized. I revamp mine every year or so.

Revamping regularly is a good idea, I bet I’d be happiest if I did the same. And thanks! I finally have a couple days off in a row, it seemed like a good time to get some of it over with.
