While browsing the #Blaugust writing prompts, I came across this one from ggchestnut. It’s far too fun to pass up, and great for a night that I’m pretty well exhausted.
Have you taken any screenshots that were opportunities from a death? Have you ever died because you were taking a screenshot? Share the shot(s)!
While I’m sure this has happened to me more than a few times >_> tonight I’ll share the first few that come to mind. I won’t include times I went into anima form in The Secret World on purpose, either. ^^
1. It’s a long way down.
I used to be very active on the VGA Minecraft server. While these shots may not look very impressive, remember that the server was vanilla, hence no flying or flying camera. When I wanted a good screenshot of some of my taller builds, I had to do the ol’ super high dirt block tower. Even though this was before the ceiling was raised, that was plenty far enough to be a problem. I fell off and died enough times that I started bringing limited inventory while going on photo shoots. (Trivia! The treehouse-looking build? That was my attempt at The Inn Of the Last Home, from the Dragonlance books. The kitchen even has a trapdoor.)
2. Last chance at Flappy
As a leadup to opening the Tokyo portal, The Secret World gave us the Whispering Tide event. Phase 3 of this event included an instanced open raid boss fight. The portal to this fight opened every 3 hours, 40 players could enter each instance, and players had 30 minutes to get in before it would close again. There were actually two bosses in the raid. On a platform above was a giant, slightly spiderish creature know as She Who Crawls Outside, but the main event was the Bird of the Zero Point Pathogen.
It took next to no time for the players to nickname it, “Flappy.”
In any case, this was a one time only event, something that would never be repeated. So, naturally, during the final one (there was another instance at the same time, but the last one I could get into) I decided I needed some screenshots. Based on that lovely attack I’m smack in the center of, this was probably one of the shots that ended in my death. (I’m still sad I didn’t think to turn off the UI, for the record!)
3. Well, this is rather undignified.
TSW again, this time I zigged when I should have zagged while fighting a demon. Nothing too exciting until I saw that I had apparently died with my head in a bucket. Lovely. 😛

I’ve never been very creative with Minecraft–building is not a strength. Your creations are completely mindblowing to me! They’re amazing!
I also wish I had been there during Flappy times. I’ve missed the game so much! I’m sad I didn’t play more regularly.

Aww, thank you! The tower is something I built (honestly) out of being nervous! I’d just joined my first Minecraft community on the server, and I was scared they wouldn’t think I was good enough. So when they wanted a mage’s tower….xD
I got more comfortable after that, it’s like anything else – with practice you get a better idea of what can be done, and how to make things look the way you want. 🙂
On Flappy, I completely get the feeling. I owned the game for about a year before I actually played, I could kick myself for some of the events and items I’ve missed out on.

I love those Minecraft pictures. I am tempted to open up a game just to try builiding something fancy in creative, never done that.

Thank you! I never played around in creative much myself, but then when I was playing regularly it was on the server. The couple times I dipped in, it was definitely fun having so many options!
