It’s going to be a short one today, folks! We had a call-in at work and no one was able to cover the shift, so it was just me and the groomers. The groomers are awesome, and we had a volunteer for part of the day, but I’m still super tired now.
In happier news, an 11 month old black lab I’ve been trying to work with (he’s scared of everything, sits in his cage and shakes) not only came up to me for pets today, but got halfway to sitting in my lap. *melted Gryph* This time, I am going to go ahead and show you what he looks like:
Manufactory
As some of you may know, I got a chance to romp through Manufactory Elite for the first time right after last week’s Beyond the Veil stream. OtterDown otternapped me after kindly waiting until the show was over. The picture at the top of this post is the best one I got, I was too busy trying not to die for most of it. ^^
I absolutely had a blast. I don’t want to spoil anything for folks who want to see it for themselves, but I very much like the new AEGIS-related mechanics. Even some of the non-AEGIS mechanics were very fun, and a great change from the norm. I’m going to have to run it again or find a Youtube clip of the dialogue from the dungeon, though. It’s not OtterDown’s fault either – I can never focus on things like that my first time through.
Some of the highlights of the run included me showing godly dodging technique…and then falling right off a pipe. More than once. Before that, I gracefully jumped out into nothingness, forgetting that the glass had been blown out of the windows moments ago. >_>
It was all kinds of fun, and I’m super happy I got to run with them. 🙂
Guild Wars 2
Today’s announcement about GW2 going F2P for the core game is causing many different reactions on my Twitter timeline. Some people are upset, some are unsure, and some are cautiously optimistic. While I understand these reactions, there’s one that always gets under my skin when something like this is announced. The people getting their lulz from the news.
The thing is, F2P does not guarantee a game is ruined or dead or any number of other things. I know people have had bad experiences, and maybe they just have a thing against the model regardless. Fine. But if you legitimately believe F2P signals the death of the game, why the hell are you laughing that someone else’s favorite game is “dead?” No, seriously, if it’s the worst thing that can happen to a game, maybe have some honest (not passive-aggressive) sympathy for the players who will have to make the adjustment? I sometimes think gamers as a whole are just very anti anyone-who-isn’t-me having any fun, at all.
Sorry for the rant. GW2 itself doesn’t affect me much either way, to be honest. I got the game as a present right near launch, but haven’t ever really gotten around to playing it. I don’t have the emotional investment in the game that regular players have, and even if I was going to be mad that it used to cost money (which…well, I have my own opinions on that, but respect that it very much bothers some) I got it as a gift. It’s the attitude some comments show, in this case and other times games have gone F2P. Makes me wonder if the internet gives out “Most Loudly Cynical” awards.
And now, another shot of the cute puppy to balance out the rant. I’m off to play some more Fran Bow, and there’s only two more days left of Blaugust, yay! 😀
Curious about #Blaugust? Visit the Blaugust Initiative page, and then head over to the Nook to see what everyone else is up to.
OMG THAT LOOKS LIKE THE SADDEST PUPPY EVER I MUST HUG IT!!
I’ve written about this “lulz gaem ded” attitude on more than a couple of times with regards to WildStar, so I appreciate the frustration. It’s anti-hobbyist to ostracize other’s idea of fun, but then there’s always going to be some stupid tribalism mentality that people build to create a community for all the wrong reasons.
But then, as I posited later, it’s best to just sever ties with those channels and bask in the sunshine of your game’s enjoyment. Let the worms below churn the soil–it will only make your roots easier to grow deep. 😀

I KNOW, RIGHT? I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!
I’ve been finding time to sit with him every day I work, and he is getting a little better every day. So, fingers crossed. He melts my heart into a little puddle.
Complete agree with you on the rest; including the part about enjoying your own sunshine. 🙂 I also noticed it with Wildstar, and as much as it bugs me from players, it’s starting to bother me even more when it’s from non-players. The “Haha, your game sucks now” with an implication it proves the speaker is smarter. Maybe because from players, I can sometimes try really hard to remember they may be upset and expressing themselves poorly, but when someone unaffected is just laughing…there’s no point other than trashing on something.
I figure I don’t have to make fun of other games to have fun with my own, so while I don’t have to like every game, I also don’t need to mock others.

Ever try a thunder shirt for that adorable puppy? My roommate uses one on her puppy when she gets all scared and shaky from storms. It really does calm her down. Just a thought! 🙂

I’ve thought about it – we sell them at the pet supply store I used to work at. The issues I see are that we work with a limited budget, and we can’t really watch him long enough to make sure he’s ok with it. It’s unlikely, but possible that a super scared dog can hurt himself if he isn’t supervised.
Good thought, though!

Aww little puppy!! Glad you two are making progress! Poor little cutie, being scared is horrible. I am glad there are people like you who can help these animals.

😀 Thank you so much! It’s a lot of work (not him so much, but in general) but I feel very lucky to be able to work there.
