I’d planned on doing an extensive post about this year’s Extra Life event, but even after a 7 hour “nap” my brain is still pretty worn out. I still want to post something, in an attempt to communicate how blown away I am by my friends and online community.
I started streaming at 7am November 7, just hoping to reach a $200 goal. By the end of the 24 hours I’d had to increase my goal twice, with a last-minute donation bringing my total to $400. Team Otterdown as a whole managed to bring in over $5000 in donations to help sick kids. The generosity is astounding, even more so when you realize that as a team, most of our donations came from right within The Secret World community.
There was another generosity that really hit me – the generosity of time and support. My stream was never empty even while the co-streams were both running the same content. TSW players, folks I know from other games, and people I know from other streams popped in and out and cheered us on. Az, from Beyond the Veil, gets another thank you there for jumping in Vent with me and organizing a Polaris run and some scenarios, right at the point I was starting to get incredibly tired of my own voice. ^^
The rest of the team, Otterdown, are always a joy to run with and I’m proud to be able to say I ran with them this year. Maybe next year we’ll even complete a raid! 😛
My friends on social media were amazing with sharing links and getting the word out, and there are too many people to name in TSW who supported so many streams in so many ways.
I’m in the process of uploading everything to Youtube, and overall I’m pleased with how the stream itself came out. Despite the limited time I had to get things set up with the new work schedule, I also had a lot of help from friends both before and during the stream. Jennet and Tyger get special thanks for running live tech support for me.
It’s been a long time since I streamed, but I’m looking forward to running more streams with whatever time off I have. While not the point of Extra Life, it was wonderful to be reminded of how much I enjoy streaming and love The Secret World. There’s a few adjustments I want to make in my setup, then things should go more smoothly.
As derpy as it is, thank you to the TSW team for giving me a game I can play for 24 hours straight and still not be tired of it! More directly, they deserve a huge thanks for the way they’ve supported the player teams this year.
Other than that, I’ve started the poll to choose what color streaks I put in my hair – a promise I made if I reached $200. I’ll leave it up for at least a few days before closing it. Depending on the color, I may get some help from a stylist I know just to make sure the color takes. I plan on doing this right!
I had help and support from quite a few friends outside of TSW, and I don’t want to sound like I’m discounting them. But the way our community pulled together leaves me with all the warm fuzzy thoughts. Or maybe that’s chipmunk fur…
