Ok, to be fair this post is a bit of a cheat – I haven’t been actively playing Minecraft for quite some time. Reading posts from folks like The Ancient Gaming Noob has just reminded me how addicted to the game I used to be. I even have a page on the Minecraft Awesome wiki! This game has a permanent spot on my favorites list no matter how long it’s been since I played.
While I’ve previously mentioned that the Video Games Awesome Minecraft server helped get me into actually interacting with people in online games, I didn’t talk much about the game itself or what I built on the server.
Minecraft is so well known by now that I doubt I need to explain what the game is. If you’ve somehow missed it entirely (how?) it’s the one about exploring and mining and creating and checking the wiki because you can’t remember how to make a redstone repeater. It’s also ridiculously entertaining for many people, including me.

While browsing the #Blaugust writing prompts, I came across this one from ggchestnut. It’s far too fun to pass up, and great for a night that I’m pretty well exhausted.
Have you taken any screenshots that were opportunities from a death? Have you ever died because you were taking a screenshot? Share the shot(s)!
While I’m sure this has happened to me more than a few times >_> tonight I’ll share the first few that come to mind. I won’t include times I went into anima form in The Secret World on purpose, either. ^^ Continue Reading
Fear the mooshrooms! Ok, maybe not fear per se; but wanna know how much fun it is leading them across the ocean that’s a million miles away just to get them to your tower? 😛
I was slow to get into online multiplayer games. When I was a kid, most multiplayer was in person (cue sad trombone over the “death” of couch multiplayer) and when I was older I just didn’t have interest. Most of my adult life has been spent in retail management. After spending all day interacting with so many people I tended towards being pretty asocial after work. I just didn’t have much interest in spending my freetime with anyone other than my close friends. Sometimes not even them. Continue Reading
Hi all, thought I’d give a quick update.
Now that Extra Life is open for 2015, I’ve been able to update the Otterly Gaming page here on the blog with relevant links. Other than occasional posts, I’ll be adding to the page as more plans for the year are made.
After this week, I’m going to settle into posting on Mon/Wed/Fri, leaving the weekends open for the possibility of posting if something comes up that I want to talk about. Continue Reading
While I was doing my thanks you’s for the new year, I mentioned “awesome gaming communities” more than once. A good community is important to me when I’m deciding where I’m going to spend my time. I’ve always said I deal with enough jerks offline, I don’t need them during my game time, too. Just calling a community “awesome and win” isn’t very descriptive though, so let’s talk about something my favorite gaming communities have in common. Continue Reading
