A very tired me does at least a few hours of Secret World Legends for Extra Life 2017. Started up a new Illuminati character that I hope to continue Soon (TM).
(“Fairytale of New York,” always my favorite holiday song. Though I think The Tim Malloys cover it best.)
Holy crap, it’s New Year’s Eve, how did that happen?! I’ve been fighting a nasty headache all day – go fig – so we’ll see how coherent I am.
It’s been a crazy, wonderful, and tiring year for me. I started this blog New Year’s Day 2015, and soon afterwards I successfully auditioned for Beyond the Veil. I never expected so many people to follow my blog, nor to meet so many new friends and fellow bloggers. I didn’t fully realize I’d be meeting devs from The Secret World and so many amazing people in the TSW community through BTV. For someone who can be rather asocial when it comes to gaming, my gaming social circle exploded this year. 🙂
I managed the best year yet for Extra Life, not only in donations but in pure fun while running with Otterdown and other friends in TSW. Thanks to a computer upgrade, I was able host my own livestream – something I’ve been wanting to get back to for a long time, and not just for Extra Life. The stream is up on Youtube, hopefully soon to be one of many. Continue Reading
Just a quick post tonight, partly to show off my awesome Extra Life Top Donor shirt in The Secret World. The TSW team really outdid themselves supporting player-run Extra Life teams this year, and this tshirt is only one of the many ways they reached out to their community.
While I’m here, a quick reminder that I’ll be joining Otterdown for an in-game TSW Extra Life wrapup party this Saturday. I haven’t heard yet if we’ll be streaming or not, but I’ll be announcing on social media if I am.
I’d also like to give a shoutout to Beth Barnes aka DJPsywarrior of Radio Free Gaia fame. Her efforts to raise $10,000 for The Malala Fund from TSW players are paying off big time. We’re only $1,522 away from the goal as I type this, and we’re all hoping to make it by the end of the year. Check out the link if you’d like to help out!
I’d planned on doing an extensive post about this year’s Extra Life event, but even after a 7 hour “nap” my brain is still pretty worn out. I still want to post something, in an attempt to communicate how blown away I am by my friends and online community.
I started streaming at 7am November 7, just hoping to reach a $200 goal. By the end of the 24 hours I’d had to increase my goal twice, with a last-minute donation bringing my total to $400. Team Otterdown as a whole managed to bring in over $5000 in donations to help sick kids. The generosity is astounding, even more so when you realize that as a team, most of our donations came from right within The Secret World community. Continue Reading
And Otterdown and I will start streaming bright and early at 8am EST. To watch us both at once, check out http://multitwitch.tv/jennettsw/darkgryphon42.
I know the blog has been silent the last couple weeks as I adjust to my new schedule. Cramming two jobs together isn’t easy at the best of times, and in this case both places are relatively short-staffed. I have a personal thing against taking extra time off when my job needs me, so I’ve been making do.
…and yet, I still kept this weekend open for Extra Life, because the difference we make in the lives of so many kids is worth taking time off for in a way my other interests aren’t.
The Extra Life tab up top will still give more details to anyone who’s hearing about this charity fundraiser for the first time, and Otterdown has put up a great post with all the different giveaways and goings-on we have planned for the day. If you can’t donate, please still feel free to stop by and cheer us on, or pass the links around.
Oh – also if I make my donation goal I’ll be dying streaks in my hair. The color will be up for a vote between Lumie blue, Templar red, or Dragon green. 😉
Short post so I can get up in the morning. Next month should also be a little less crazy for me, with more updates here. Even with the holidays, my schedules look like they will cooperate better then!
As I get ready for the first day on the new job (Yay! And to be clear, this is a second job. No way am I leaving the humane society.), thought I’d do a quick update here. Continue Reading
With thanks to Jennet for making me such an awesome banner! 🙂 For more information, check out the Extra Life menu link.
I’ve been game swapping quite a bit lately. I think it’s mostly because of the new computer, and being able to run games on much better settings. Having a computer that will run games better (and not run the fan so loud I fear it will explode) adds a lot to even games I’ve already played.
I put a good bunch of hours into The Talos Principle before taking a break from it. I really only paused because I had a few exhausted nights in a row. As much as I can play puzzle games while tired, it’s not the most fun thing in the world. I started up a new character in Skyrim, and we’ll see if I get farther than usual this time. I tend to get distracted by sidemissions and collecting alchemy materials, and then never complete the actual story.
In the world of adulting, I’ve canceled my subs to DCUO and FFXIV for now. I still enjoy both games, especially FFXIV, I just can’t justify a subscription for a game I’m rarely playing. I can always resub when I feel the need. This is one of the reasons I got a lifetime membership to The Secret World – I can spend less money in the Item Shop, but never have to justify the money for a sub.
I’m also in the process of picking up a second job, which may well affect my posting for a while. I’ve juggled multiple jobs before without too much trouble, though, and I’d love to make more headway on some old student loans hanging over my head. Real life always comes first, and the folks I most enjoy gaming with tend to agree.
I’m looking forward to Funcom’s upcoming game, The Park, this month and Halloween in TSW. No one does Halloween like TSW does! Gameday for Extra Life is coming up in November, and I intend to reserve time off for that no matter how many jobs I’m working. I preordered Fallout 4, and I’m sure I’ll be posting about that once it’s out.
With luck I’ll have some more freetime later this week, and will be able to post something more substantial!
