Welcome to the true spirit of Blaugust! I didn’t get any real sleep last night, just dozed for a few hours. And had to open the store early this morning. But, even though I didn’t technically sign up for daily posts…I don’t want to lose the streak I have going. So let’s do a post while running on caffeine and exhaustion, what could possibly go wrong?
I’m going to ramble more about where I’m at with getting back into livestreaming.
I managed to stream last night despite being tired and vaguely headachy. There’s that Blaugust nudge working again (at least partly). It’s like my dog when he’s reminding me I haven’t fed him since his last meal…both persistent and insistent. 😉
I was very much happier with my camera placement this time around. It gave me more room for the weird slouching I do, for one. It also meant I didn’t feel like I was staring right into everyone’s souls when I was just trying to spot a detail in the game. It feels more natural to look over to chat on the other monitor when I respond, looking “at” everyone while I’m addressing them directly. This might be entirely in my head, and is not meant to be advice of any kind.
Last time I was streaming fairly regularly, I didn’t use my camera much at all, partly because it’s one more thing to keep track of. It also takes more social energy for me to be on camera than to just be talking. It’s more of a performance, despite not being onscreen as a character. BUT I also like having the option, and understand why many people prefer seeing the person they’re listening to. Of course, it’s also fun or I wouldn’t be doing it.
I did tweak the settings I needed to tweak, and the stream ran much more smoothly. I also remembered I do better with something at least approaching a plan for the night…at least when I’m live. Offstream, it’s butterfly chasing all the way!
I was pleased to see I still have the ability to keep talking while part of my brain is “ZOMG panic.” And no, the specifics aren’t important, just that I’m glad it’s still something I can do. I can probably thank/blame working in retail for that.
Okies, into the not good. Painfully obvious my headset is on its last legs, and I am not okay with the noises it was making. This is being rectified very soon, and I hope Nash doesn’t mind a shoutout here because without his help it would have taken a lot longer to figure out what I needed.
I also still had the game volume lower than I wanted, which is weird since I checked that before the stream…but I might have turned it down out of habit later, without realizing.
The Twitch chat overlay, obviously, still isn’t working. I have a different overlay that works fine, so I just need to take some time and figure out why the difference. It probably doesn’t help that I decided to be lazy last year and just use Streampro instead of setting anything up myself. >_> Either I’ll kick Steampro enough to get it working again or I’ll do it myself, once I’m less sleep deprived.
Overall, though, yay progress! And yay I have a Day 4 post for Blaugust, as well. Possibly a vaguely coherent one, even.
I will eventually be posting about something other than Blaugust and streaming…I just wasn’t expecting to jump in this year until the last minute. So right now, you get what’s at the top of my brain.
