I’ve seen a few of these posts over in the Blaugustverse – the ones I’ve seen were from Nerd Girl Thoughts, Nerdy Bookahs, and Time To Loot though there might be more by the time I publish. We’re taking a look at the oldest additions to our Steam wishlists to see how we feel about them today.
The initial list I saw was specifically about unreleased games – how long do you wait before changing your mind or giving up? But since I haven’t pruned my list in ages, I thought I’d go for the actual oldest things on there and see what happened.
Now, I only have 44 total items on my wishlist, including one DLC. I used to keep track of my wishlist and regularly prune and sort it. I…clearly have not done that in a while, as you’ll see.
Starting from the oldest, we have:

Darkest Dungeon (added 2/15/2015)
This is a game I want to want and I want to want to play. The concept is so cool, the artwork is great, it’s in my wheelhouse of weird creepy games (which is what I play when I’m not on a cute animal game kick like I am right now). Plus, I deeply dig turn-based rpg’s. The problem is, after watching enough streams and let’s plays…I don’t think this is the kind of roguelike I’d actually enjoy. I think it’s the kind that would frustrate me.
I keep it on here because there’s still a small chance I might be in the mood for it someday, so this stays.

Steam Controller (added 8/18/2015)
Lol. Rofl, even. So, this has been discontinued by now. I had it on there because I play a lot of games that are intended for keyboard/mouse with a controller and mouse. I have bad wrists that act up if I play strictly keyboard/mouse for too long, so years ago I started experimenting with programs like Pinnacle Game Profiler (Discontinued when the dev passed away. Do not download from any links for it, I hear they’ve been hijacked.) and Joy2Key, as well as various gaming mice and Logitech controllers. This was going to be another thing to try, but I couldn’t justify the cost and now it’s quite definitely too late.
This one stays purely because it amuses me.

The Lord of the Rings Online (added 12/22/2015)
Why is this on my wishlist? I’ve played it. More notably, it’s Free to Play. Was I trying to remind myself to check it out and I thought this would be a good way to do that? I confuse myself sometimes.
This one can go. There is no reason for it to be on here, do I even know how to wishlist?

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (added 12/22/2015)
I think I added this because for the longest time I reflexively added anything FF to all wishlists everywhere. I’ve since realized while I love the world of FF, I prefer the older games I grew up with. I’m one of those players, lol. If I want a new FF experience, I’m fine hopping back into FF XIV which I’m constantly forgetting I sub to and should probably pause again. I also always see a lot of very mixed reviews for this one, more about the port than the game itself.
I suppose this one can stay, but I should probably let it go.

Black Mesa: Definitive Edition (added 3/6/2020)
This one I probably should pick up and play at some point. I’m sure I added it because I love the Portal games, but I hear great things about this one all on its own. I probably haven’t gotten around to it because I have to be in the right kind of mood to play a first person sort of game, and last time I was I picked up Subnautica. (I picked it up on Switch, and it’s also still here on my Steam wishlist so I should probably fix that.)
This one absolutely stays, it’s clearly a great game – I just need to be in the right mood.
Those are my actual oldest. A little further up we get into “Coming Soon” indie games that may or may not ever see the light of day, but I’m amused that the oldest ones on my list are…well, these five.
If nothing else, I’ve sorted my ranked Wishlist now so more current games I’m excited about like Little Kitty Big City, Paper Animal RPG, Neyyah, and Anemoiapolis are up near the top!

I got a kick out of seeing the Steam Controller on your list. xD
It quite possibly would’ve been mine too, save for the fact that Valve doesn’t like selling any hardware to us poor folk in NZ. Still the only way to get a Steam Deck over here is to import one.
…Not that I’ve looked, because I have *definitely* learnt my lesson on handhelds and how much I actually in reality would use them… >.>
