#Blaugust 2023 #2 – I’ve been smoted. Smitten. Season Two of Good Omens – There will be spoilers!

Season 2 of Good Omens AFFECTED me. I’ve said it online a few times, but it bears repeating.

The last time I went online specifically looking for how fans were unpacking and speculating about a show, it was around Season 4 of The X-files and tumblr didn’t exist yet. I was also a young teenager, just to make sure I feel appropriately old now, 27 years later.

Season 2 affected me enough that I’m writing this up on July 31st despite knowing that my first post for Blaugust will be the traditional “Hey, I’m doing Blaugust!” post, and the next one really ought to be some form of introduction. It probably only took this long because I work 10+ hr shifts Friday-Monday so I wasn’t able to give myself the time until now, after work on Monday.

This season of this show affected me to the degree that I started listening to the character music playlists they put up. I put on Season 1 when I’m not watching Season 2. I put on the audiobook for the millionth time. I’m searching to find podcasts covering this season, and posts online discussing it. It affected me to the degree that I’m pretty sure I literally dreamed that the [redacted] situation was all cleared up the night after I watched it, because apparently my brain just deeply needed more closure.

Friends and neighbors, I don’t get like this about shows. And yet, here we are.

I expected I’d enjoy this season. I did not expect to be smoted by smitten with this season. Add me to the list of people having “unexpected feelings” after this one.

Blaugust 2023 #1 – I’m doing the thing again? I’m doing the thing again.

Ok. I’m going to take a break from writing tomorrow’s post brain-dumping about Good Omens Season 2, in order to write up the traditional, “Hey, I’m doing Blaugust!” post.

Blaugust is, to quote directly, “a month-long event that takes place in August each year that [focuses] on blogging and other serialized content. The goal is to stoke the fires of creativity and allow bloggers and other content creators to mingle in a shared community while pushing each other to post more regularly.” You can find more info over on Belghast’s blog: https://aggronaut.com/2023/07/12/blaugust-2023-is-coming/. In short, it’s a fun online event that Belghast runs yearly – and has done for 10 years now! – to encourage and support people in their goals of posting, reading, and making connections.

Transylvania Missions and Celebrating Upgrades to My Stream!

Still super excited about the stream we did last night. 🙂 Other than my first one back after being sick for a week, it’s also the first time I’ve been able to stream with a green screen. I’ve said before I don’t mind watching streamers either way, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for mine for a very long time. This is one of those streams I can look at and go, “Yeah, yeah I really like how this looks. It’s not perfect, but I really like how it came together.” (My voice wasn’t quite as cooperative, but I’ll take what I can get. :P)

I’ve also been playing around with stream alerts and, as you can see, adding in one of those Bit Jars. I’ve tended to try not to clutter up my stream, but I’ve had a few viewers ask so I’m working on finding the compromise where alerts don’t take away from the game, but people can still have the fun of their follows/subs/cheers being shouted out onscreen.

PLUS Twitch approved my first emote, which happens to be a picture of Loki. 🙂

Thoughts On Earning Twitch Affiliate

Twitch Affilliate

I have a lot of different thoughts and feeling about reaching Affiliate status with Twitch last night, and thought I’d throw them out here for those who’ve been curious why this is even a thing for me.

For my friends who don’t really keep up with gaming or streaming, earning Affiliate or Partner status on the Twitch platform is a sort of, “Hey, you’re really doing this, huh?” acknowledgement. In a practical sense, they both open up some options for you as a streamer, including the possibility of earning revenue. Both Affiliate and Partner require you to reach certain goals as far as viewership, time spent streaming, days streamed within a month, etc. Partnership is a (big) step up from Affiliate and has much tougher stated requirements, along with less specific requirements that are in the hands of the folks at Twitch. (This makes perfect sense since once you reach Partner, Twitch is definitely investing in you as a streamer and as a representative of their service-  so they’re understandably choosy about that.)  That’s the bare bones, simplest explanation.

BotW – Running Around With a Flaming Mop

We had kind of a special stream last night. I mean, other than the parts where I was running around with a flaming mop. *coughs*

This Breath of the Wild stream was the last thing I needed to do in order to qualify as a Twitch Affiliate. 🙂 If I get a chance, I’ll do a separate blog entry about what that means to me, why it matters, and what I’m thinking about for streaming going forward. (I can tell you I don’t plan on dialing it back just because I reached a goal. <3)

But, in the meantime, this is the stream that nudged me over the last hurdle.

Obsidian (1996) Parts 1 and 2

Remember the love letter I wrote to Obsidian during a Blaugust Event? After a lot of time, effort, and help from Nash we finally got my old disks running well enough to stream it! We haven’t finished this playthough yet, but I’ll link the two streams that are done here. (The second stream is split into multiple videos because our old ISP was misbehaving that night. Happily, we’ve since switched to a new one and the internet has been worlds better since!)
