What a week! Spring and summer are considered, “kitten season” in my neck of the woods, and it shows in more work and more hours. I begin to think that shorter, but more frequent posts may be a better plan than saving my news for one day, when I may wind up not having time to write. Not that I didn’t write at all this week; my new one is up on HolosuiteMedia, check it out for much X-Files geeking and laughing about a younger me attempting fanfic! Other than being super busy, the job is still going well, and I’m still happily naming animals after video game NPC’s.
Other than work, I’ve spent the last couple weeks primarily playing the TSW Anniversary Event I mentioned a bit ago. (Also, Tilty kindly joined us on Beyond the Veil to chat about it.) I thoroughly enjoy world boss events. I love seeing so many people working together, both fighting and making callouts on the #event channel. The fixes the devs implemented this year (lower player caps, less health on the golems) seemed to work well in cutting down on lag, thumbs up there. Continue Reading
Little late in the day to be posting, but in my defense I was working, chasing golems, posting my latest up on Holosuite, and romping with the Otters partway through their stream. Busy day! (I’ll also ask for forgiveness if I sound half asleep, I’m pretty close to it!)
Still, I at least wanted to mention that June first began two weeks of Anniversary event fun over on The Secret World. We’ve got our golem world bosses, we’ve got party packs, we’ve got all-of-the-boosts, and most importantly, we’ve got an amazing community. Continue Reading
[I know, awful pun!]
I’ve been pretty busy with offline stuff this week, so this post is going to go out a little late. But one of the things I was busy with today was getting my entry together for the #IAMTSW cosplay contest, and I thought I’d take a moment to talk about why I went with the outfit and picture I did. As promised, I’ll take some time to talk about the contest that’s currently in progress on The Secret World’s forums. This is an “epic forum event” that we’d been promised by the community managers for some time, and part of the payoff for the ARG I’d mentioned. The theme running throughout the contest is #IAMTSW (which soon morphed into #WEARETSW); this idea that we are the ones who make the game what it is, so let’s share our experiences.
There are a few things the community and its community managers are doing for this contest that make me more excited than I usually get about forum contests. Continue Reading
On Friday, folks browsing The Secret World forums got a surprise. A thread had been started by one of the ingame NPCs. The post asked for help, and provided a short number sequence and a garbled audio file. Today, there was another post from that NPC – this time with a longer number string and a longer, still garbled audio file. Part of this second post’s puzzle has been solved, leading to a free trial key meant for new players interested in the game, but the rest of it is still being puzzled over by the community. I had a different plan for this post. The holiday events in The Secret World just wrapped up the other day, and DC Universe Online tweeted that they were extending theirs until January 12. I wanted to talk about winter holiday events – the types of events that various games put together, and then a bit about how much I appreciate it when they clearly put a lot of effort in. I took massive amounts of screenshots and had an idea of how I wanted to approach it.
Then, something cool happened during a pug (Pickup Group/Game, random players as opposed to a group of folks who know each other) in The Secret World. It’s something that has happened before but gives me pause each time it does. I don’t want this blog to turn into only “be nice” stories, but I’ve seen a few friends lament a lack of “players doing cool things” stories online. In the interest of talking more about what players are doing right, I’m going to tell my story, and save the event chatter for a different post. As a sidenote – I’m amused that the one dungeon I forgot to get screenshots of is the one involved in this story. 😛 TSWDB (awesome player-run TSW site) has some under “2013 – Krampusnacht” for those interested.
